Action Alert: Protest Caterpillar use to demolish Palestinian homes

From www.BoycottIsraeliGoods.org June Campaign

Please act during this month to write and publicize the use of Caterpillar equipment funded by our tax dollars to demolish Palestinian homes and uproot their trees and thus to continue an ethnic cleansing
process that started over 54 years ago.

Talking Points:

- With 2001 sales/revenues of $20.45 billion, Caterpillar is the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment. A significant
portion of these sales occur in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

- Caterpillar's Claims of Social Responsibility: "As a global company, we use our strength and resources to improve the lives of our neighbors around the world." "Caterpillar's reputation for integrity is a
fundamental part of our heritage and one of our most valuable assets. Integrity encompasses all that defines and sustains us as a company -
the values we believe in, the high ethical standards we live by, our honesty and behavior in dealing with others, and our commitment to deliver on the promises we make to customers, shareholders, and each other. In great measure, we at Caterpillar have achieved our worldwide leadership position by upholding our reputation for integrity. No document Caterpillar has published is more important than our Code of Worldwide Business Conduct. "

- Despite these lofty words, Caterpillar provides Israeli forces with armored bulldozers and others tools, paid for by American taxpayers, to
destroy Palestinian homes and uproot trees (see
http://www.counterpunch.org/gordon0602.html and
http://www.miftah.org/Display.cfm?DocId=81&CategoryId=4 for detail)

- According to the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions thousands of Palestinian homes have been demolished in the occupied areas since
1967 and the pace of demolitions accelerated after Israel signed the Oslo accords in 1993. The latest were eight homes yesterday in occupied
East Jerusalem (picture attached).

- Demolition of Palestinian homes constitutes a gross violation of basic human rights and contravenes major international human rights
conventions including the 4th Geneva Convention and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

- International covenants on war crimes and the newly established International Court of Justice are authorized to punish any who knowingly support acts that constitute war crimes. Demolition civilian
homes and rendering thousands homeless (mostly women and children) during times of conflict comprises grave war crimes.

Well Said!

This brief review of Israel’s record over the past four decades makes it difficult to resist the conclusion that it has become a rogue state with "an utterly unscrupulous set of leaders". A rogue state habitually violates international law, possesses weapons of mass destruction and practises terrorism - the use of violence against civilians for political purposes. Israel fulfils all of these three criteria; the cap fits and it must wear it. Israel’s real aim is not peaceful coexistence with its Palestinian neighbours but military domination. It keeps compounding the mistakes of the past with new and more disastrous ones. Politicians, like everyone else, are of course free to repeat the lies and mistakes of the past. But it is not mandatory to do so.

Would you like to Donate and help a Palestinian Family? Please check out the following organizations.

Link   PALESTINE CHILDREN'S RELIEF FUND
The Palestine Children's Relief Fund was established in 1991 by concerned people in the U.S. to address the medical and humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian youths in the Middle East. It has since expanded to help suffering children from other Middle Eastern nations, based only on their medical needs. The P.C.R.F. helps to locate free medical care for children from the Middle East who are unable to get the necessary and specialized treatment in their homeland.

  Link   Islamic Relief
For those of us who would like to make secure donations to a trusted organization that can deliver aid and help to Gazans, one such organization I have come across and would recommend is Islamic Relief USA, based out of California.

 Link   Dalia Association
At Dalia Association, we believe that many of the resources we need for social change and sustainable development already exist within the community.

 Link   United Palestinian Appeal, Inc.
UPA is a member of the Independent Charities of America, a participating agency of the Combined Federal Campaign, and is registered with USAID as a private voluntary organization engaged in foreign aid

LinkJewish Voice for Peace
Jewish Voice for Peace is a diverse and democratic community of activists inspired by Jewish tradition to work together for peace, social justice, and human rights. We support the aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians for security and self-determination.

Link   Free Gaza
We are these human rights observers, aid workers, and journalists. We have years of experience volunteering in Gaza and the West Bank at the invitation of Palestinians. But now, because of the increasing stranglehold of Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine, many of us find it almost impossible to enter Gaza, and an increasing number have been refused entry to Israel and the West Bank as well. Despite the great need for our work, the Israeli Government will not allow us in to do it.
