This week there are several events to join:
Friday May 15th:
Farmers' Market and work day @ Abed's
Abed is a farmer from Al Wallaja village, close to Bethlehem who is facing compulsory acquisition of his land by Israeli real-estate developers. Abed now lives permanently on his threatened land in a small cave, without electricity, water or wastewater infrastructure. You can learn more about Abed's situation by visitin his new website: www.abedland.com.
Together with Israeli activists, we are supporting Abed in developing his site to cope with this situation using permaculture techniques.
This week we will be helping to rebuild the stairs down to the site from the road.
In addition, there is a farmers' market every week at Abed's, selling fresh, organically produced products direct from the farmers of Al Wallaja.
Call 02 2748994 for directions if you are coming from the West Bank, or 0502600590 if coming from Israel.
Sunday May 17th:
Bustan Qaraaqa Volunteer Day:
As usual this week we will be having a volunteer event at our permaculture farm in Beit Sahour. Come and help us develop our site towards full sustainability, enjoy a day in the countryside and learn about permaculture techniques.
This week we will be building a shade structure over our new cistern and extending our tree nursery to accommodate new species that we have collected seeds for.
The summer is upon us, so this week we will be starting work at 3pm, carrying on until it gets dark (7.30pm). If you would like to join us for a barbeque and a beer after work, please bring supplies and we will eat, drink and be merry.
Tuesday May 19th
Artas Volunteer Day:
This week we will be starting a new cooperation with farmers from Artas who are resisting land confiscation and settler encroachment onto the villages land through non-violent means. We will be supporting tree planting and water catchment building events, as well as developing some model plots in the centre of the village demonstrating permaculture techniques for water conservation and soil improvement, helping to address problems of food security.
This week we will begin work on the model plots. The event will run from 11am to 3pm – meet at Artas Monastery if you would like to join.
That's all for this week. Any questions, call 02 2748994. Visit our website: www.bustanqaraaqa.org or our blog: www.greenintifada.blogspot.com to learn more about our project.
Hope to see you this week,
With love,
the Bustan Qaraaqa team
